Spurl for social bookmark traffic
Spurl is a social bookmarking site whose stated purpose is to help you keep from losing your work. You can keep track of all the sites you’ve looked at in one easily accessible place, where computer crashes and other catastrophes can’t get to them. Spurl has all the regular features of social bookmarking sites, including a feature that automatically uploads all the bookmarks that are stored on your computer.
Spurl’s “about” page has a website calculator that tells you how many sites you’ve looked at in your life. You enter in the date you started using the internet, how many sites you look at each day, and how long you spend on each site, and it tells you how much work you’ve done online. Even if you’re not interested in using Spurl, it’s kind of weird to try the calculator!
If you bookmark a site using Spurl, it will save the URL as the page that was there that time. In other words, when pages disappear, Spurl will keep your link for you. This is called “linkrot,” and is a big problem with traditional bookmarks. You don’t have to worry about losing the info that was there when you saw the page.
Spurl gives you a “spurl bar,” a side bar that appears on the side of your browser. You can use Spurl’s functions quickly and easily, and you can hide the spurl bar if it’s in the way.
Spurl lets you bookmark pretty much anything, but for adult stuff, they label it “explicit.” They claim to almost never block a page, but it does happen occasionally. Spurl reserves the right to block whatever material they want to, but they say it rarely happens. There are filters you can use to block explicit material if you want to.
Currently, Spurl is installing new spam blocking features. Because administrators like to keep Spurl free for everyone to use, they have had lots of trouble with spam lately. This has made it difficult to use, but the data saved on Spurl is alright. Check back for new anti-spam features!
Protecting user privacy is a high priority for Spurl. You can keep your profile anonymous. Spurl uses a standard rating feature, where users can “recommend” their favorite sites. The most recommended sites go into the “hot spurls” category.
Spurl is one of the most popular social bookmarking sites and is very user friendly.
