Netscape for bookmark traffic
Everybody knows about Netscape, but you probably didn’t know that Netscape has their own social bookmarking site. It’s part of the “new Netscape.” The service has RSS feeds, voting, and media options where you can have a video from Netscape’s server stream through your website. Like other social bookmarking sites, you can share your favorite stories with other like-minded people.
In addition to a voting system and tags, Netscape also has “channels.” Each channel has its own ranking system, and the main page chooses the most popular stories from each channel to display. The story’s popularity is based on what rank it gets and how many comments there are.
Netscape hates spam! They are very tough on spam, so that should be a word of warning to marketers and others who would flood it with links. They have a full-time staff who go through the system constantly removing spam and cleaning up the system. They also surf Netscape to get rid of duplicate articles and to comment on interesting stories.
If Netscape bans a certain site, you will be unable to submit a link to any of its pages. This includes spam sites, as well as those that are pornographic or illegal. They also will not accept submissions to alias sites like www.tinyURL.com.
WARNING: Netscape spends lots of time looking for sites that it considers spam, and they have a pretty broad definition. If you submit or vote on stories that you are affiliated with, they will consider it spam. If it’s obvious that you’re trying to sell something, they’ll ban the site. They take this kind of thing very seriously, so you should be careful if you intend to use Netscape for profit.
Netscape is chiefly a news site. That means that current events, politics, latest tech news and other up-to-date stuff is most popular. Of course, “news” can be defined pretty broadly, so you can submit pretty much anything and find pretty much anything. Netscape will sometimes remove old news stories. A quick look at what’s hot on Netscape shows all kinds of other things as well, but news is the stated purpose of Netscape.
Netscape also allows you to submit videos in a variety of different formats. You can put a video on your site using Netscape’s server for support. Just remember that they are pretty strict about what is acceptable and what isn’t, and they’re always prowling around on the system trying to get rid of stuff they don’t like!
