Simpy is a popular social bookmarking site where users can save and share bookmarks. You can save a Simpy icon to your browser’s tool bar and simply click it whenever you see something you want to come back to.
The most popular tags are tech things like “java” or “software,” and “how to” and “blogs.” Simpy has pages of every topic you can think of, but there is a lot about business and technology. This is what Simpy users seem to be most into, although you can find lots of stuff about news or arts and culture.
On Simpy, there doesn’t seem to be any requirement on how many tags you can put on a link. This might be useful for marketers trying to promote their sites there. Also, Simpy uses tag phrases, so you can put in any number of possible combinations and tag your sites with whole phrases.
Simpy allows you to tag auto-complete. So, if you type in the beginning of the tag you want to use, it will give you a list of tags that are similar. This could be a good way to add more tags to your site and increase the chances of it being hit.
There are no categories on Simpy because the designers figured that users would have to many sites bookmarked, it would be better to use tags. Searching for tags in Simpy is easy because it allows boolean searches. In other words, you can use words like AND and NOT to limit the searches. This helps you find exactly what you’re looking for in your Simpy bookmarks.
You can also search for keywords in certain parts of the site. For example, you can search for the keywords in just the title, or the whole body. There are 5 different options for searching in this way.
Simpy has “watchlists” where you can see what other users are bookmarking, and you can set filters so that your feed only picks up certain sites. For example, if you’re into sports cars and you put another user who shares your love of sports cars on your watchlist, you’ll also get all the other stuff he looks at. But, you can set your watchlist filter so that it only sends you the links related to sports car tags.
To keep you organized, your Simpy account has notes. These are little memos you can write, save and retrieve later using tags. These are totally private.
