Feedmarker
The main things Feedmarker does are bookmark and tag. It uses an RSS/Atom aggregator. You can not only bookmark the sites you like, but subscribe to feeds using RSS or Atom, to receive new stuff on your computer. It also has features to help you keep track of all the stuff so you can find it later.
When you find a site you like, you can either use a little bookmarklet that goes on your web browser (you can download it free and easily from Feedmarker), or you can put in the URL address of the RSS feed or Atom feed. If you don’t know the specific address, you can just enter the site’s address and the Feedmarker system will find the feed for you.
Tagging is what helps you organize your feeds. If you tag it with something you’ll remember, it will be easy to go back and find it again.
What makes Feedmarker different is that it emphasizes using feeds. This means that you can get updated information as soon as it’s posted. It’s also easy to use, and easy to find your favorite feeds - as long as you give it a good, relevant tag. That’s the key to it, and the site offers some ideas to help you get started.
Feedmarker’s main page gives you two columns of links: on the left you have the most popular, and on the right the recently added.
A quick perusal of the most popular sites shows a pretty mixed bag. Feedmarker likes all kinds of sites. The most popular site is a directory of Australian websites. Next, you have Digg, a Sims Mod Board and another tech website. (Hint to webmasters: Feedmarker likes tech stuff!). There’s also a test site put up by Yahoo, and “the official Google blog.”
As you go down the list, you see lots of stuff about web marketing, social bookmarking, tech stuff like software and web applications and various directories of other sites.
On the right, you can look at the most recent posts, most of which are along the same lines. On the day that I looked, somebody had just linked about 20 ringtones sites. What this means is that anything goes (probably) on Feedmarker. They don’t seem too particular about keeping SEO type stuff off their site.
The most popular site on Feedmarker has 37 people, the next is 10, and after that all the most popular sites are under 10, so it probably wouldn’t be hard to get your blog or website rated pretty highly here.
After all the ringtones sites, there was a weight loss site added 2 days ago. Before that, it had been 32 days before anybody else had linked anything. This means that there aren’t many links being added to Feedmarker, but it also means that you can make your site dominate.
